The European Identity: Past, Present and Future (June 16th to 27th, 2025)

A summer school organized by the International Relations Office of the University of Strasbourg, will take place from June 16th to 27th, 2025.

During these two weeks, you will attend high-quality interdisciplinary courses in English exploring various aspects of European culture, politics, law, history, as well as society, taught by renowned professors and researchers with international experience.

This broad scope of topics will provide an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of European integration, governance, and global challenges. Academic courses will go hand in hand with meetings and discussions with representatives of European institutions, as well as guided tours, in order to discover the unique cultural heritage of Strasbourg’s region, located at the very heart of Europe.

The European Identity: Past, Present and Future (June 16th to 27th, 2025)

A Summer School organized by the International Relations Office of the University of Strasbourg, will take place from June 16th to 27th, 2025.

Why Should You Participate in This Summer School?

The European Summer School at the University of Strasbourg attracts students from all over the world and the lectures involve dynamic debates, therefore offering a platform to share ideas and engage with different perspectives. By attending this program, you will:

A little bit more about Strasbourg and its surroundings

Strasbourg is considered a 'Capital of Europe' because it hosts key European institutions, including the European Parliament, the Council of Europe, and the European Court of Human Rights. During the Summer School, you will have the chance to visit these institutions, engage with experts, and gain firsthand insight into the workings of European Institutions.
Furthermore, Strasbourg is a vibrant, culturally rich city, offering a mix of French and German influences due to its history, which is noticeable through the city's architecture, traditional museums and local cuisine. And, last but not least, its central location allows you to take a train and easily travel to other European cities, like Paris, Brussels, Berlin, or Geneva.


Registration fee: 1,600 euros.

Services included:
- Academic courses
- Cultural tours
- Accommodation on Campus (arrival no earlier than June 14th and departure no later than June 29th, 2025) 
- Lunch (from June 16th to 27th, 2025), Welcome dinner (evening of June 17th) and Farewell dinner (June 26 th)
- Tramway tickets for the two weeks and travel costs to cultural sites outside Strasbourg

Services not included:
- Round trip costs to and from Strasbourg
- Dinners (except the Welcome and Farewell dinners)
- Medical/travel insurance

Registration from November 21st, 2024  to January 31st, 2025

Confirmation of selection: Second week of February 2025
Payment of registration fee: February 17th to 28th, 2025

French as a foreign language (FLE) programmes

The University of Strasbourg provides a range of French as a foreign language (FLE) programmes throughout the year:

♦ Summer French Language Programme

A two-week intensive French Language Programme with 20 hours of classes per week, takes place every year at the end of August. The International Relations Office organises this program and all international students doing a mobility at the University of Strasbourg are eligible to take part.

The classes held in small groups and the cultural and social activities enable students to improve their level of French (listening, speaking, reading and writing skills) and prepare for their future academic courses.

In addition, numerous tips and tricks will help new students adapt to their new living and studying surroundings.

♦ Autumn and Spring French Language Programme

An extended French Language Programme is available to international students, doctoral students, lecturers and researchers throughout the year, with 4 hours of classes per week at the end of the day:

  • 1st semester: September to December
  • 2nd semester: February to May

Diploma courses are organized by the Pôle Français Langue Etrangère—Institut International d'Etudes Françaises of the Faculty of Languages:

♦ A self-access learning to learn or improve independently

French learning and practice resources are available for free and open to all University of Strasbourg (Unistra) students and staff during weekday afternoons at the Pangloss Language Center, except on Saturdays and Sundays. These resources encompass a wide range of learning techniques spanning from beginner (A0) to advanced (C2) levels, as well as access to books, newspapers, magazines, games, CDs, and DVDs.

Some Faculties/Schools/Institutes of the University of Strasbourg  organise short-term programs sometimes called summer or winter schools. These programmes generally last from a few days to several weeks.
